KEN PRUE PRESENTS
MORGAN DAVIS LIVE

MAY 19 • 7:30pm

Morgan Davis is a Halifax-based bluesman seasoned by 45 years on the road across Canada, the USA and Europe.

Originally from Detroit, Morgan soaked up a rich mix of rhythm and blues when Jimmy Reed, Ike and Tina Turner, Chuck Berry and Fats Domino ruled the air waves. In 1968 he moved to Toronto and mined that rich music scene, living in Rochdale College, immersing  himself in the study of Delta Blues, especially the music of Robert Johnson. Toronto's music scene was the perfect place for Davis to cut his teeth as a journeyman, playing with many legendary performers. Bukka White, Johnny Shines, Sunnyland Slim, Snooky Pryor, Hubert Sumlin, and John Hammond. In 2004 and 2005 Morgan Davis ruled the Canadian Blues scene, winning 4 Maple Blues Awards (songwriter, vocalist, song and album of the year with "Painkiller") and the Juno for Album of the Year. On top of all that Colin James picked up Morgan's song "Why You Lie?" and made it his signature song.  Since those heady days Morgan has played and toured almost non-stop as a solo act. Delta Blues is an art form that just gets better with age.
