ZAPP! PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS
STUDEBAKER JOHN AND THE HAWKS

JULY 31 • 8pm

Studebaker John Grimaldi was born in an Italian-American section of Chicago and started playing harmonica at age 7. He hung around Maxwell Street, Chicago’s famed blues melting pot and got to gig with all the greats. John began playing guitar after a life-changing experience of seeing Hound Dog Taylor and the Houserockers perform. “…Hound Dog started playing, hitting notes that sent chills up and down my spine. He was versatile and powerful and would play rhythm as well as leads. I left there knowing what I wanted to do. I had to play slide guitar.”

From 1978 to 1991, John released several Critically Acclaimed Blues albums and started touring the world. While on the road, he was noticed by two of the biggest British Blues/Rock bands of all time, The Yardbirds & The Pretty Things. The groups were re-forming to hit the road and out of all the guitarists who wanted the gig, Studebaker John was hand picked for the tours.

From there John has continued to tour with his own band The Hawks, has released several more critically acclaimed CD's and wows audiences around the globe with his hard edged Chicago House Rocking Music with fantastic guitar, Blues Harp and powerful vocals.

"A Blues Classic, John's raw amplified work recalls past masters like Hound Dog Taylor and Big Walter Horton while his slide guitar playing is descended from Elmore James and Hound Dog Taylor. On top of that, Studebaker John is a powerful vocalist and a talented songwriter."...The Chicago Tribune.
